Friday, October 23rd, 2009
Toyota together with its subsidiary company, Daihatsu, plans to launch serial production in cheap small car destined for markets in developing countries. As is known, Daihatsu is one of the largest producers of so-called “K” cars (micro car) in Japan. According to the publication MarketWatch, the new model will be sold in China, Brazil, India, Russia and other countries. Production is expected to be in a car factory at Daihatsu in Indonesia. The new model will have engine volume 1.0 liters and its price will not exceed 11 000 euros. So far, no other information about the joint model of Toyota and Daihatsu. The news of this model, however, confirms the strengthening trend of big brands to create special low-cost models for emerging markets. Intentions to launch similar models are VW, Fiat, Renault-Nissan and PSA Peugeot Citroen. VW and PSA are likely to produce their models in Russia.
